Will the Head Edger Fit My Trimmer?
The Head Edger fits commercial string trimmers. It arrives assembled. Slide the trimmer shaft through its centered hollow shank and secure it with the locking nut that came with your trimmer. Echo is the only brand that needs an adapter ring, sold separately.
How do I know if my trimmer will work?
Check three things on the trimmer you already own.
- Is it a commercial string trimmer? Head Edger is built for commercial units, not homeowner electric or battery trimmers.
- Does the cutting head come off? Remove the standard head. The Head Edger takes its place on the same shaft.
- Do you still have the locking nut? That nut came with your trimmer and is what holds the Head Edger on. Nothing else is required.
If all three are yes, you are ready to install.
Which trimmers need an adapter ring?
Only Echo. Echo trimmers need the adapter ring, part AR-1000, sold separately. Every other commercial brand fits with the trimmer’s own locking nut.
| Trimmer | What you need |
|---|---|
| Echo | Head Edger plus adapter ring AR-1000 |
| Other commercial brands | Head Edger, using your trimmer’s own locking nut |
| Not sure | Send us your make and model and we will tell you |
How does it attach?
The unit arrives assembled and ready to install. Insert the trimmer shaft through the centered hollow shank and secure it with the proper locking nut, the one that came with your trimmer. Make sure the shaft is centered. Full steps and a printable sheet are on the Resources page.
What size sprinkler heads does it fit?
It adjusts to fit sprinkler heads from 4.5 to 10 inches and ships set for a standard 8 inch head. For smaller heads, turn the blades inward.
What comes with it?
The Complete Head Edger Unit arrives assembled with the boot, bearing, blades, slides and the 1 1/4 inch internal retaining ring. Blades are replaceable, so the unit is not consumable. Replacement blades come in sets of four.
What if it does not fit?
Send us the make and model of your trimmer. We have built these since 2005 (U.S. Patent 6,857,480), and we would rather tell you straight than sell you the wrong part. See why superintendents choose Head Edger.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need special tools to install it?
No special tools. A hex key is supplied for the blade and slide screws. Hand tighten only, since power tools can strip the threads. The locking nut that came with your trimmer holds the unit on.
Will it damage my sprinkler heads?
The patented boot and bearing system rests on top of the head while the blades cut around it, which protects heads and distance markers when used properly.
Where do I buy the Echo adapter ring?
It is sold separately on this site as part AR-1000.
